The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

An open-world adventure about Link waking from a long sleep to save Hyrule from Calamity Ganon.

Nintendo EPD · Nintendo · 50–80 hrs

Difficulty

The open-air Zelda that made shrines, physics, and a single inventory of breaking weapons the whole loop. Faron durians and a completed armor set will flatten Divine Beasts that felt like walls on a fresh Plateau save.

Tips

  • Start here

    Hearty Durians are extra hearts

The trees west of Lakeside Stable in Faron cook into full-recovery meals with bonus yellow hearts. Don't sell them, and don't waste them on a two-heart snack when one durian already maxes the bowl.

  • Start here

    Runes are the dungeon kit

Magnesis pulls metal chests out of water and solves the Plateau bomb trial. Stasis on a Stone Talus deposit, then a hammer, is how you mine ore without wasting a Royal Claymore.

  • Advanced

    Ancient Arrows delete Lynels

A headshot Ancient Arrow deletes most things, including Lynels, if you would rather farm the rest of the map than learn the mount-and-bow loop. Shield surfing saves durability on long downhills.

  • Advanced

Champion abilities have a charge trick

Urbosa's Fury refills after three hits if you delay the last swing of a combo. Revali's Gale is a camp-to-camp skip; use it from a cliff, not from the floor of a valley.

  • Secrets

    Eventide and Kilton

Dump your inventory on the peninsula before you swim to Eventide Island so the strip-down isn't a real loss. Kilton appears at Skull Lake at night and moves to the left-eye lake of every region once you've found him.

  • Secrets

    Dragon farms have a clock

Farosh rises at Riola Spring, Naydra at Mount Lanayru after the spirit quest, Dinraal along Tanagar Canyon. Shoot a horn, fang, or scale, then wait out the despawn timer instead of chasing the whole body.

  • Bosses

    Thunderblight is Magnesis

Grab the metal pillars he drops and hold them into his dash. Rubber armor or the Thunder Helm from the Gerudo questline makes the rest of the fight a timing puzzle instead of a shock lock.
