Super Mario Odyssey

A 3D platformer about Mario traveling kingdoms with his living hat to stop Bowser's wedding.

Nintendo EPD · Nintendo · 12–20 hrs

Difficulty

A capture-based 3D Mario where Cappy is a second jump, a grab, and most of the movement tech. Story moons are a tour; the real catalog is purple-coin shops, dark-side gauntlets, and two-player Cappy.

Tips

  • Start here

    Talk to every Bonneter

The hint-giving Bonneter in each kingdom marks moons you walked past. Purple regional coins buy the densest moon packs in the Crazy Cap shops; collect them while you tour, not as a cleanup pass.

  • Start here

    Ground pound extends the throw

Ground pound, then throw Cappy, to burst him farther than a standing toss. Capture first and jump second; the capture meter recharges on the ground, not in a panic air throw.

  • Advanced

    Throw, jump, dive

Hat throw into jump into Y-dive is the speedrun movement for almost every kingdom. A roll into a cap bounce also covers the long gaps that look like Glydon puzzles.

  • Advanced

    Gushen and Glydon skip geometry

Lake Kingdom's Gushen is unlimited water traversal if you manage the water meter. Glydon from Mount Volbono peaks will glide into moons the story path fences off.

  • Secrets

Dark Side at 250, Darker Side at 500

After Bowser, deposit 250 Power Moons for Rabbit Ridge (Dark Side) and 500 for Culmina Crater (Darker Side). Shop moons count; Darker Side is one long capture gauntlet, not another collectathon.

  • Secrets

    Metro RC car manhole

The RC Car in New Donk can drive into a manhole for a moon the street view never shows. Two-player Cappy also chews through the jump-rope and volleyball moons that feel brutal solo.

  • Start here

    Souvenirs sit on the Odyssey

Crazy Cap souvenirs are not just hats. They fill the ship and unlock extra Bonneter chatter, which is how several otherwise unmarked moons get flagged.
