A roguelike about Zagreus fighting his way out of the Greek underworld.
Supergiant Games · 20–40 hrs
A story roguelike where the Mirror of Night, keepsakes, and a handful of duo boons are the build. First clears like the Shield or the Spear; later clears like the Pact.
The extra dash on the Mirror of Night is the first Darkness purchase. Death Defiance (or Stubborn Defiance once you know rooms) is the second. Refund the Mirror with a Chthonic Key when a run wants a different row.
Give the first Nectars to Skelly (Lucky Tooth extra life), Cerberus, and a weapon god you actually take. Keep Skelly's keepsake on until you can clear Tartarus without spending a Defiance.
Pom of Power on your main damage boon beats a third Centaur Heart once the HP bar is already comfortable. Charon's Wells sell the hammers and poms you didn't see in rooms; always check, even on a 'fast' run.
Zeus plus Dionysus (Scintillating Feast), Poseidon plus Zeus (Sea Storm), and Aphrodite plus Artemis (Heart Rend) will carry a weapon you don't love. Take the duo's prerequisites early, not as a last-chamber hope.
Fishing spots are a Codex and gem farm; the rod comes from the House Contractor. Chaos gates in the first few chambers are stat boosts with a curse you can plan around. Talk to everyone in the House; the story is the other progression bar.
Don't get cornered by Theseus and Asterius; kill the bull first or kiteshot Theseus, but never stand in the spear-and-bull sandwich. Hades's skulls are a dash-through; cast from range and save a Defiance for the red skull phase.
Aspect of Achilles on the Spear and the Shield's bull rush are the honest first clears. Once the Pact of Punishment is on, a single hammer that changes your attack (dash-strike, charged shot) is worth more than a rare boon on a skill you don't press.
Heat is a menu of modifiers, not a difficulty slider. Add Tight Deadline and Damage Control before you add Extreme Measures on every boss; EM4 Hades is a different fight, not a harder version of the same one.
