Slay the Spire

A roguelike deck-builder about climbing a spire by drafting cards and surviving encounters.

Mega Crit · 30–50 hrs

Difficulty

A deckbuilder where map path, rest sites, and a few card removes beat a rare you picked because it was rare. Heart kills need the three keys; everything else is Act 1 math.

Tips

  • Start here

    Don't fight every elite

Act 1 elites are for a deck that already has damage. A rest site that upgrades a Strike-removal or a Bash is often the better node. Neow's 100 gold is more honest than a random common most of the time.

  • Start here

    Remove Strikes at the shop

Card removes are a build. Don't over-upgrade Strikes; upgrade the card you play every fight (Bash, Neutralize, Zap, Eruption). Shops are for removes and a relic, not for a third shop pack of commons.

  • Advanced

Frontload Act 1, scale Act 2

Act 1 wants damage that works this turn (Perfected Strike, Poison, Lightning). Act 2 wants scaling (Strength, Focus, Shiv generators, Wrath). A deck that only scales dies to Act 1 elites; a deck that only frontloads dies to the Act 2 boss.

  • Advanced

    The Heart wants keys

Ruby Key is Recall at a rest site, Emerald Key drops from a burning elite, and Sapphire Key is taken from a chest instead of the relic. Path those three nodes before the Act 3 boss or you will walk into the Heart without Act 4.

  • Secrets

    Infinite is a deck size

Dropkick plus Anger (Ironclad), Cloak and Dagger plus After Image (Silent), and a Watcher enter/exit Wrath loop all want a tiny deck. The 'infinite' is a remove plan, not a rare card you waited for.

  • Builds

    One engine per character

Ironclad wants Corruption plus Dead Branch or a Strength Perfected Strike pile; Silent wants Poison plus Catalyst or shivs plus Accuracy. Defect is Frost plus Consume or lightning plus Electrodynamics, and Watcher is a Wrath enter/exit loop rather than a little of every stance.

  • Bosses

The Heart is an artifact fight

Beat Artifact, don't dump a big power into the first turn's Beat of Death. Bring a thin deck, a way to block 2 damage per card, and don't end turn 1 with a hand of Powers against the multi-attack.
