Dead Cells

A roguelike action-platformer about a headless prisoner escaping a constantly changing island.

Motion Twin · 20–40 hrs

Difficulty

A metroidvania roguelike where the Forge, the daily run, and Boss Cells are the campaign. Brutality, Tactics, and Survival don't want to be worn together; a shield parry is the real dodge.

Tips

  • Start here

    Don't hoard cells

Spend cells on the unlocks you will actually use (a weapon, a mutation, a Forge level) before you leave the run. The Forge is the permanent damage; a 50-cell nest egg in the bank is a wasted Forge roll.

  • Start here

    One color per run

Brutality (red), Tactics (purple), and Survival (green) scale their own items. A red sword with a green shield and a purple bow will feel weak in every biome. Pick a color at the first weapons and commit.

  • Advanced

    Parry, don't just roll

A shield parry is the i-frame and a stun. Rolling through every attack works until 3+ Boss Cells; then the game wants a parry or a melee that has hyper armor. Homunculus rune is the secret-room hand; grab it.

  • Advanced

    Legendary Forge and custom mode

Once you've seen an item, Custom Mode lets you disable the junk that keeps showing up without turning off achievements (within the rules the game prints). Legendary items from the Forge are a slot, not a whole build.

  • Secrets

    The Giant and the Queen

The Cavern route to the Giant is a biome people miss after they find the Spider rune. The Queen (DLC) is a different final; both want a kit you already upgraded, not a first-run color spread.

  • Bosses

    Concierge and Time Keeper

Concierge: roll the slam, hit during the fire-trail recovery. Time Keeper: stay close and parry the blades; the fight is a melee exam that a Tactics bow will make longer, not easier.

  • Builds

    Mutations follow the color

Brutality likes kill-and-heal mutations, Tactics likes extra ammo and turret synergies, Survival likes freeze and fortify. A random three mutations from three colors is a dead run at 4 Boss Cells.
