The Guardian Legend

A game that alternates between a scrolling shooter and an overhead maze.

Compile · Broderbund · 5–8 hrs

Difficulty

Compile glued a vertical shmup to a Zelda dungeon. The Guardian is a ship in the halls and a walker in the maze. Chip upgrades are the build.

Tips

  • Start here

Explore the maze, spend chips on the gun you use

Don't dump every chip into a weapon you haven't found yet. The corridor stages are checkpoints with bosses. Map the red doors.

  • Secrets

Some walls are bomb walls even here

If a dead end looks rude, shoot it. The password is a long string — take a photo. Save chips for the last few corridors; they are the real tax.
