Red Dead Redemption 2

An action-adventure about outlaw Arthur Morgan and the fading Van der Linde gang.

Rockstar Studios · Rockstar Games · 50–80 hrs

Difficulty

A slow-burn western where camp upgrades, horse bonding, and a satchel that actually holds your loot are the progression. Honor changes shop prices and a few endings; the trapper is the armor set.

Tips

  • Start here

    Satchel from Pearson

Perfect pelts (clean kill with the right weapon on a 3-star animal) go to Pearson at camp for satchel upgrades. The Legend of the East satchel is the inventory; until you have it, you are throwing away pelts.

  • Start here

Bond the horse to level 4

Calming, feeding, and not slamming into trees gets you the horse drift and the extra speed. The white Arabian near Lake Isabella is a famous early steal; a bonded level-4 cheaper horse still beats an unbonded Arabian.

  • Advanced

    Dead Eye paint it black

Later Dead Eye lets you tag multiple targets. Use it on the first shot of a shootout, not after you are already riddled. The Buck Antler trinket from the legendary buck (trapper) improves pelt quality rolls.

  • Advanced

    Honor is a shop discount

High honor cuts prices and opens extra greet options. Low honor opens different story lines and looting. Don't max either by accident if you care about a specific chapter-6 conversation.

  • Secrets

    Serial killer, Viking tomb, meteor

The serial-killer map pieces, the Viking tomb near the I-shape rocks, and the meteor house are easy to ride past forever. Fences buy the penny-dreadful maps and the gold bars those hunts spit out.

  • Secrets

Camp funds are a chapter check

Donate carcasses and cash so the camp actually upgrades. Several camp-item requests (the crank, the books) expire when the gang moves; do Pearson and the ledger before you push the next story mission.

  • Bosses

    Legendary animals are boss fights

Read the map from the trapper, use cover scent, and take the first shot with the recommended rifle. A legendary pelt ruined by a second shotgun blast is a trinket you will not get again on that save.
